“I don’t have time to explain why I don’t have time to explain” why the game has been on a downward spiral, but Destiny 2: Beyond Light looks like it could take the franchise in a new direction. Perhaps there really is a glimmer of light amongst the darkness, or will it fall short like many other aspects of the series?

10 Bad - Story Track Record

Destiny has fallen short in the way of story elements over the years. There were legitimate reasons for the original game with half of the team leaving during its creation. Destiny 2 did more to enhance the preexisting story but ultimately didn’t live up to the expectations. The DLCs were worse and players complained about the lack of information and quality of content.

With such a bad track record, it is hard to believe that Beyond Light will really go beyond. Hopefully, they release a quality story with tons of new information.

9 Good - The Stranger Returns

The Exo Stranger was one of the characters in the original game that confused players. She showed up for brief moments and disappeared. She didn’t really do much except coin the phrase that spiraled into one of the biggest gaming memes found on the internet.

Destiny 2 saw no sign of her which made players question if she would ever return. Beyond Light shows her front and center, meaning she is part of the main story. This brings some hope for her character and could be a sign that Bungiehas finally made her worthy of reentering the universe.

8 Bad - More Grinding

Destiny has been a series filled with grinding. With so many resources to gather and reputation to grind, it has become a chore to keep up with maxing out your light. With each new DLC comes the prospect of another resource to grind and new weapons to obtain.

This has been a downfall of Destiny from the start and could get worse in Beyond Light. With a new planet to discover, there might be more materials to search for. This will only bring a new annoyance to the universe of Destiny.

7 Good - A New Planet

It’s easy to speak badly about a new planet being brought into the Destiny universe, but let’s remain hopeful. A new planet could mean a great experience. A whole new world to discover new story elements and unlock hidden secrets.

This could be big for the game. Unlike Mars, they could turn Europa into a vast and magnificent wasteland fill with brand new areas to explore, missions to complete, and timed events. All of these will further increase what you can do to help keep the game interesting. Just hope they don’t reuse some old mission types.

6 Bad - Enemies

The enemies of the Destiny universe have become rather stale. Fighting the Fallen, Vex, Hive, and Cabal can get old. While Bungie introduced new enemy types before, they still fell under the four main types of enemies.

With no proof that there is a new faction coming, it is hard to be hopeful about fighting new enemies, but this goes both ways. The Darkness has arrived. It can bring with it a whole host of opportunities, but more on that in the next section.

5 Good - Possible New Faction

As stated previously, the Darkness has arrived. We are going to be going beyond the Light. This could bring in a new faction of enemies we have never seen before. Just imagine what those triangular ships could unleash. We already know that there will be a new power unleashed upon the world.

At this point in the games’ timeline, a new faction is definitely in order. At the very least, we could be seeing some new enemy types even if there isn’t a new faction.

4 Bad - Lack Of Races

Bungie has slacked off when it comes to character creation. Sure, there are armors and weapons to use. There are even ways to customize your ghost. The fact still remains that there are almost no races to choose from when creating your character.

This isn’t a severe problem, but you would think that since there are multiple enemy races, the guardians could potentially gain a new race. No DLC has added one and players are still stuck with the same three from the first iteration of the game. It’s entirely possible to add the Fallen to the list of playable races considering some of them work with the Guardians. Work it in Bungie!

3 Good - New Subclasses

This is another topic that really spans two sections. Beyond Light is bringing us new subclasses to each class in the game. This is going to take shape in the forms of the Behemoth, Revenant, and Shadebringer.

Each class allows you to use stasis which freezes enemies in place and allows you to shatter them. It is a cool new way to introduce ice powers that have long been absent from the game. This also means new skill trees to customize and even more ways to play once everyone gets over the hype.

2 Bad - Lack Of Classes

Now the other side of that topic. New subclasses are great, but it would be nice if Bungie finally added a new class. With the same three classes to choose from, there is a lack of customization. Players have experienced it before.

You enter a raid, but the group really only needs you to play a specific way. Adding a new class on top of the subclasses would allow more freedom in the game and cut back on the number of players who expect others to play a certain way. Bungie has a strong rule of threes when it comes to your character and it might be time to finally break it.

1 Good - A New Raid

Players love a good raid. The Vault of Glass is still coveted as one of the best raids in the game and it was introduced early on. Since then, Bungie has created multiple raids that further increase the story of the world and give players a real challenge.

Each raid consists of new puzzles to learn, enemies to overcome, and loot to grab. There is no doubt that Bungie puts hard work into the raids that they release and the new one won’t be any different. You can look forward to experiencing a wealth of story and gameplay as players try to uncover the secrets of the new raid.
