Fable 4 needs to innovate for it to stand out in a saturated RPG market. The previous Fable games are renowned for their relatable stories and unique settings. However, it’s easy to compare Fable to RPGs like The Elder Scrolls and The Witcher. Rather than follow a trend, Fable 4 needs to be a breakthrough title. Here are five reasons to be excited for Fable 4 (and five reasons to not).
10 It’s Coming To Xbox Game Pass (Reason To Be Excited)
Xbox Game Pass continues to prove its relevance as the leading game subscription service. Other services might have more games, but the numerous triple-A games found on Game Pass make it stand out. This is a service that gives you games for Xbox and PC, giving you the freedom to switch back and forth.

Fable 4 will be a game-changer for Xbox Game Pass, encouraging many players to make the switch to Xbox Series X. Fable 4 will be available on Xbox Game Pass at the game’s launch.
9 We Haven’t Seen Gameplay Yet (Reason To Not)
The Fable 4 official announcement trailer rekindled old memories with one of Xbox’s leading RPGs. However, this might not be time to celebrate as gameplay has yet to be revealed.
The development of Fable 4 was rumored back in 2018. It could be sometime in 2021 or later before this game releases. Xbox One’s Fable Legends was canceled, so expectations need to be set accordingly.
8 Fable Is One Of Xbox’s Biggest Franchises (Reason To Be Excited)
Because Playground Games, one of Microsoft’s subsidiaries, is creating Fable 4 fans can take comfort in knowing the IP is in good hands. Unless the game turns out to be an utter disaster, Microsoft will release Fable 4.
Fable Legends was more of a spin-off, but it seems doubtful that they will cancel a main series game.
7 The Series Hasn’t Distinguished Itself (Reason To Not)
What makes Fable’s story stand out compared to other RPGs is its relatable story. Players maintain a meaningful connection to the characters throughout the game. However, if you prefer realism over cartoony graphics, you might prefer to play other RPGs like The Elder Scrolls or The Witcher.

It’s been a while since the last Fable release. The series needs to fundamentally shift its gameplay to stay relevant and compete with current RPGs. Looking back, the series has failed to distinguish itself, but this could change with the next Fable.
6 It’s An Acclaimed RPG Series (Reason To Be Excited)
This blockbuster franchise could redefine the RPG genre. Gamers have the highest expectations when it comes to their favorite franchises. Fable is one of Xbox’s most acclaimed series, which is why Fable 4 could live up to the hype.
The first two Fable games were masterpieces. Fable 4 needs to be fundamentally different, yet it should have the same enjoyability as the originals.
5 The Reveal Trailer May Have Copied The Elder Scrolls (Reason To Not)
There is an uncanny resemblance between The Elder Scrolls VI E3 trailer and the Fable 4 Xbox Games Showcase trailer. This could suggest similarities between the two upcoming games.
Fable might be looking to borrow a page from The Elder Scrolls, yet it’s hard to ignore the elephant in the room. The Elder Scrolls is a more prominent franchise with a more established player base.
4 Written By The Writers From Batman: Arkham Knight (Reason To Be Excited)
According to gamesradar.com, “Arkham Knight’s lead scriptwriter Martin Lancaster is now Fable’s narrative director, and former Rocksteady scriptwriters Kim Macaskill and Craig Owens also joined Playground Games to work on Fable.”
The Batmobile sequences were excessive, leading many players to criticize Batman: Arkham Knight. However, the writing of Batman: Arkham Knight was gripping from start to finish. The inclusion of multiple villains like Scarecrow, Deathstroke, and the elusive Arkham Knight was all too memorable.
3 Fable 3 Was Lackluster (Reason To Not)
Fable 3 was one of the now-defunct Lionhead Studios’ last games. It could have been a smashing success, yet the game fell flat on its heels without a developed combat system or a cohesive story.
In Fable 3, players had trouble establishing a connection with characters. It certainly had high development costs, but the result was a lackluster sequel.
2 It’s Got Frogs And Faries (Reason To Be Excited)
Fable is decent if taking a look at the series as a whole. It’s an RPG series that has delivered multiple times. If you’re looking for a reason to be excited, then look no further.

Fairies and frogs will appear in Fable. It’s a small tidbit of information we received from the reveal trailer, but at least the devs game us something. It could be a while until Fable comes out, but the recurring fantasy theme hasn’t changed.
1 Forza Horizon Team Members Are Working On Fable 4 (Reason To Not)
Keep in mind that this one could go either way. While Playground Games is the right development team to give the game polished graphics and an immersive world, they have less experience with RPGs.
Seriously, Playground Games did a phenomenal job with the Forza Horizon racing series, but does this mean they can add wow factor to the new Fable?
